This story begins and ends with death, and you know that. You feel arms around you, the darkness all consuming. There’s ringing in your ears, a thrumming in your veins like something else is beside you. You think you hear begging, pleading, perhaps the whimpering of tears being shed, and you wonder why you can’t see them. Below you, the ground is cool, damp, yet sticky, like something other than water pools beneath you.
You hear another voice, clearer to you, unlike that of what you can only assume is family, or friends, or lovers, or mere companions beside you begging for you to get up. It’s shaky, yet stern, like the hum of life itself is within it. It sends chills down your body, and threatens to jolt you out of existence altogether.
“So, rise, Challenger of Gods, and prepare for battle once more.”
Death will not claim thee.----

It was a clear night, the sky beset with glimmering stars upon stars upon stars. A tapestry of twinkling lights, all so much bigger than him. It was beautiful, familiar. Peaceful.
