Following the events of "The End of the Fortress" Spy proposes to Medic that they should run away together but get caught before they can proceed.But what if they didn't? What if they got away for real and had to manage on their own? How would the RED team cope with the majority of their support gone? And what of BLU?
This Fic explores those questions and more in my reimagining of the "Magnificent Nine" SFM series. It takes a more character-driven and emotional approach to the AU. With, of course, a big focus on Gentle Surgery. What started as a rewrite fic snowballed into basically an entirely different story.

James was just trying to help out his mother and brother, but at this point he genuinely believes that he is to angry to do anything right. After being kicked out of another Mechanic shop he has no choice, but to call up his uncle and ask for help. After his uncle pulls some strings James under goes some experiments and test, and is hired into the Builders Leagues United team as the Scout. Most of the team seems to be indifferent to the new Scout, but the teams Spy seems to hate him for no reason. Or at least that is how it seems. Why does something about Spy seem so familiar to James though?
