The story takes place five years after the original events of ATLA.
What would happen if Aang breaks out of the iceberg five years later? How would the world look, and more importantly how would the characters change?
21 year old Zuko has been out at sea for the last six years, since his banishment. One day he sees a clear blue light near the South Pole. Naturally he investigates, not in the hopes of regaining his honour. That is something that he lost hope of long ago, instead he does it for the sake of his crew of misfits. Little does he know that the strange blue light is about to rock his fucking world upside down.

Since the question has come up so often in the comments, yes, Aang is exactly as he is supposed to be and the reason is not Aang-bashing. -

It's Korra/Asami and Earth Avatar-centric, bridging some dangling lore from the series/novels.
Adventure/character focused over shipping. Based off Seven Havens leaks, albeit with some divergences, and no major spoilers yet.

Ten years later, Dai Li would rear his head again, and Juno, knowing humanity under Dai Li's rule would have no humanity at all, sought out her own band of benders to take on her father. With all their differences and flaws, she will have her work cut out for her as they face Dai Li's enigmatic cult, their own demons, and the Avatar of whom no one speaks.

Katara had been so sure of her plan to liberate the prison rig. How was she to know how efficiently the guards would respond to an uprising? Zuko had been positive that his best course of action was to travel separate from his Uncle. What else was he supposed to do when he came across a person from his past? Sometimes, through all the doubt, two people collide. Eventual Zutara.
This is both a Canon Related and Canon Divergent, reimagined ATLA story. Katara joins Zuko in his journey of self-discovery across the Earth Kingdom as personalities clash and beliefs are questioned. Familiar allies and enemies await them along the way.
Ripple effects of having Katara absent from the majority of 'Book 1: Water,' are seen once Katara and Zuko meet up with the Gaang later on in the story. 'Book 1: Water' occurs mainly in the flashbacks of this story as Chapter 1 picks up close to the start of 'Book 2: Earth.'
The plot of the story has now reached the allied invasion of the Fire Nation Capital City. The scene is set for Zuko's confrontation with his Father, Ozai.
