For all of Phainon’s eagerness, Mydei can feel Phainon’s mind drifting, the same way it does when he’s distracted during a spar--errant thoughts of god-knows-what displacing him and tugging his tension taut like puppet strings, making doubt and hesitation bleed into his motions, loud as anything. Phainon is too wary of indulgence, too averse to his own desires, too indoctrinated by circumstance to have want of anything for himself.

As it currently stands, we of the Xianzhou Alliance have nothing else of value to gain from Amphoreus and all the reason in the world to let slip that Irontomb hides here.” Grand Marshal Hua’s eyes flash as she lifts her chin. “There are many in this world who would seek vengeance against Irontomb for their losses.”
Mydeimos’ blood chills in his veins, molten gold turning to ice as her words drop from her lips. “You would threaten such a thing? There are countless innocent lives on Amphoreus.”
“No price is too great in the path of the Hunt,” the Marshal declares. “What is a few hundred thousand lives in comparison to the trillions already lost to the Abundance?”

Summary
When one has an eternity to live through, life tends to be different. Each day starts to blend into the next, turning from a slideshow of experiences into simply a fog of existence. It was clearly a curse but one Mydei had long since gotten used to. When he was born, he was hailed as the Crown Prince of Castrum Kremnos, the sole heir of King Eurypon and Queen Gorgo, and his people trusted him to bring a new era of prosperity to them. Instead, he had to watch as his people were slain by their own madness and watched his nation burn. A promise made to save his people left him cursed to wander through life alone for the rest of eternity and the one person who he'd entrusted his heart to locked away by a group who claimed undying faith to Kephale.
Over 5,000 years later, he finds himself finally giving his heart to someone else - a human man named Phainon who seems to be the living embodiment of the sun. For the first time since he'd lost everything when he was a young man, Mydei finally finds something worth living for.

After the fall of Aedes Elysiae, Phainon finds himself in Castrum Kremnos.
It isn't exactly a purposeful decision; he'd simply wandered around, tagged along with a merchant group or band of refugees here and there, but eventually, he'd ended up more or less settling in the City of Strife.
It's not exactly a terrible life, living like this, Phainon think absentmindedly, as he runs a whetstone along his blade. It's just a bit dull- meaningless- in its own way. Perhaps once his training is completed, he'll set back on the road again.
