Chapter Text
This is the land of Miitopia.
It is place where everyone can live in peace and harmony.
Or at least... it was.
The darkness came without warning...
A great and terrible shadow threatening all of Miitopia!
An unspeakably evil fiend started stealing everyone's faces!
And to add insult to injury...
The fiend gave the faces to monsters!
Behold, a simple traveler, wandering- Wait, what? I think she's just on vacation with some other people.
Well, there goes everything else I was going to say...
But whatever. Anyway, they will now be the main focus of the story.
“Are we there yet?” Eliza asked again. Stella groaned. Eliza had asked this very question so many times Stella had stopped counting. Ann gave the same reply she always did, slowly getting more and more frustrated as time went by. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, had turned into the complete opposite. “No, we’re not there yet.” said Ann. And less than a minute after, Eliza asked again. “Are we there yet?” said Eliza. This time, Ann rolled her eyes. “Hey! Are we there yet?” shouted Eliza.
“We weren’t there a minute ago, what makes you think we’re there now?” Ann snapped, and it didn’t take long for Eliza and Ann to start arguing.
But Stella wasn’t interested in their arguing, because something else caught her attention. Something strange. It was a floating pair of eyes above a few butterflies on the path the three were on. It slowly started to glide downwards.
"Um...Eliza? Ann? Over there..." Stella called for the two and pointed at the pair of eyes.
However, the two were still arguing and it took a few moments for the both of them to stop bickering. When they looked, the pair of eyes was no longer floating and it had attached itself to a butterfly.
"...What is that?" Ann replied, confused.
"I don't know!" Stella panicked.
"Eh, I'm sure it's..." The butterfly charged at Eliza before she could finish her sentence. Thankfully, she quickly ducked out of the way before the butterfly could crash into her. "...nothing." Eliza finally concluded.
"Never mind. Let's just run." said Eliza.
And Stella, Eliza, and Ann did exactly that. They sprinted along the path, hoping to lose the butterfly along the way. And eventually, they reached a small town. "Is it gone already?" Stella panted.
"Probably." replied Ann.
"Not." Eliza added.
"Eliza, you're not helping." said Stella.
"But I guess we can relax here for a bit." said Ann, as Eliza grinned at this.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea after what happened with the butterfly." Stella agreed.
But Stella thought there had to be more to that butterfly. She just had to know about this, so she decided to ask the residents if they knew anything. First, she asked a black-haired man standing at the entrance of the town. He wasn't particularly occupied with anything, so she thought it was a good idea to ask him about the butterfly.
Stella explained what happened to him, hoping he knew something. He did not. "Monsters with people's faces? That's a good one!" He burst out laughing.
"I'm not joking." Stella objected. He still continued.
"What's next, a dark l-" Suddenly, an ominous shadow was cast over the sky.
"...look up..." Stella attempted to warn.
"Huh? What is it?" said the man, failing to notice the change in the skies.
A voice came from above, surprising both Stella and the man.
"Mwa ha ha haa!" The voice cackled evilly.
Stella turned to face whoever was laughing, revealing a horned figure floating before all of the residents. He had black hair with purple highlights, coupled with a matching robe. Behind it, he wore a lilac cloak. His skin was pale blue and he had eyes the same color as his gold eye-shaped amulet.
Stella had no idea why he was here now of all times, but she assumed he probably didn't have good intentions. She might have been wrong but , either way, it was best for Stella to keep quiet. She didn't want to draw attention to herself. The horned figure continued his speech. Or at least he was going to, before he was interrupted by somebody. And that somebody was Eliza.
"Hey! You! Cut the monologuing, and explain yourself right now! Who are you, and what are you doing here?" shouted Eliza.
"I haven't even started my monologue yet. But if you must know, I am the Dark Lord, Dark Lord. And-"
"You're joking, right? What kind of self-respecting Dark Lord would call themself 'Dark Lord Dark Lord'?"
"I'm sure it's better than yours. And now, I have come here to wreak havoc and terror on this miserable little world! And I'm-"
"Ahem. I said to get to the point already! Saying that you're gonna 'wreak havoc and terror' barely tells me anything!" yelled Eliza.
The Dark Lord, Dark Lord scowled. Eliza saw this a prime opportunity to make a super lame quip. "I guess he can't even-" Suddenly, Eliza's face flew off of her body. Stella assumed Eliza was going to end with "come up with a lame comeback".
“Wait, what’s happening?!” Eventually, her face stopped to float beside Dark Lord Dark Lord.
“...Does anyone else have something to add? Anyway, as I was saying...” He continued his monologue, Eliza’s face now glaring at him. “I have come to wreak havoc and terror on this miserable little world! And I’m starting with you, people of Greenhorne! Say goodbye to your faces!” Then, some people’s faces flew off, though the only one she recognized was the face of the guy she was talking to just earlier. “Hmph. This should do nicely for now. Listen up, you faceless freaks! Get used to a life of wordless terror, because that’s what you’re stuck with! And for those who’ve been spared, take a good long look at your poor little friends... and DESPAIR!” the Dark Lord finally finished his monologue, before vanishing and taking the faces with him.
Stella didn’t know what to do. Just the thought of someone going around stealing everyone’s faces made Stella’s stomach do a metaphorical backflip. Stella had hoped something like this wouldn’t happen. That maybe she was wrong about this Dark Lord guy being evil, and she and Eliza could go on vacation. But no. Her vacation was ruined, and Eliza and some others were now faceless.
Frightened, Stella sprinted to Ann. “Ann! Eliza! Are you okay?” Stella called out, panicked.
“I’m okay, but maybe you should be more concerned whether Eliza’s okay.” Ann replied while Eliza attempted to nonverbally communicate “Does it look like I’m okay to you? Just try to go get my face back or something!“. Stella did not understand a single thing Eliza was trying to say. “I-I can’t just stand around doing nothing, I guess... I’ll try to get everyone’s faces back.” said Stella, trying to calm herself down. “Alright. But before you go, take this. It’s a good luck charm. I fear that Dark Lord still lurks nearby, so maybe you could look outside town for him?” Ann responded.
“Okay, Ann. Thanks for the charm. Bye!” Stella said as she set off to leave town and look for the Dark Lord.
She was still scared, but that wasn’t going to stop her. She at least had to try.
