You’re My Destiny

Summary:

Being a literal guardian angel sucks.

That’s James Ricado’s view of it.

He’s had to wait 20 years just so he could finally mate with his chosen one, his soulmate because the last time he saw them was wee they were just born, but now they’re finally old enough to become his life partner.

But there’s many, many obstacles in his way before he can even start.

Oh yeah, one of them happens to be his future mother-in-law.

Notes:

Read description and take note.

Greed-ler is not named Greed-ler in this fic. He has his own original name, backstory, family and appearance. He only looks like Greed-ler in the first few chapters before coming into his own character and appearance.

Thank you.

Chapter Text

I sighed, I was finally here. After 20 years, I’ve found him, despite the problems I’ve had to endure. Oh my apologies, I should probably introduce myself, shouldn’t I? My name is James Ricado and I’m an angel….of sorts I guess. I was born into a family of angels and our job description is in the name.

We’re guardian angels to our soulmates until they are old enough to mate with us properly. We have the ability to change our faces and names to make it easier for our mates to A: recognize us because we look exactly like them, we also just tell them their name is our name and B: we know what they look like because we can just look in the mirror so it’s not a wild goose chase to find them.

It makes our job 100 times easier but just knowing what they look like doesn’t make finding their location any easier. We don’t have trackers or anything. But finally for myself I have found my mate after 20 years of searching, I last seen him when he was a baby just newborn and I myself was a 15 year old but a very mature one at that. I was older in the head and always have been. I introduced myself to his mother and told her who I was and what my role in her son’s life will be. She didn’t take too much of a liking to me but I didn’t care her son was my soulmate and that was just something she was going to have to deal with and maybe she’ll like me more now I’m not a teenager.

But enough bout her just now, this is about her precious son, my beloved soulmate. With a little help from my sister I found the location of my soulmate in the midst of a forest in his world.

(We guardian angels also come from another world where all guardians come from, it’s complicated.)

Anyway, this wasn’t just any forest, I knew this forest. It was the truffula tree forest guarded by the “voice of the trees.” He calls himself, he’s not going to happy to know I’m on his territory but I’ve got jobs to do and hopefully I won’t see the little fuzzy orange bastard with a bit of luck. But my soulmate had decided to set up camp with a massive tent in the middle of the forest so looks like I won’t be leaving here anytime soon.

When I got to the front door I noticed to my left there was a chopped down truffula tree, great. Looks like I will be seeing that orange prick because of something presumably my soulmate done. I sighed deeply and changed my appearance from my own face to reflect my soulmate‘s face. He’s going to think he’s seeing things but that’s part of the fun and the only part of the early days I’ll actually enjoy.

I’m not going to tell him my real name just yet, I’ll wait until we are more acquainted to reveal anything of our true relationship or my true self. I slipped in the front door and saw the bathroom door a crack open so I sat myself on my soulmate’s bed and watched as he changed from clothes to nightwear then stumble tiredly over to the bed before he stood up straight and his eyes widened at the sight of me.

Sat on his bed, clothed in my signature suit that my mother had prepared specially for this occasion when I properly meet my soulmate as 15 year old me seeing him as a new born doesn’t count. He wasn’t my mate until now, until he’s become of age. Anyway back to my suit, a bright green, pinstripe jacket that had a length tailcoat. Soft green arm-length gloves. A black top hat with the matching green, velvet bow that made me appear a little taller. Under my jacket, one of my white button-down shirt with a large, black and green striped tie that matched the color scheme of the rest of the outfit.

My personally tailored fitted black slacks that stopped sharply at my ankles to draw attention to my expensive leather patent boots with a edge of a heel to make make a few inches taller and my finishing touch, my large flamboyant sunglasses. Blue and sparkling around the rims. “Who the hell are you?” He asked me, still stood in his pyjamas with a confused expression.

I smirked and took off my sunglasses, setting them in my jacket pocket with a chuckle. “I’m not at liberty to reveal my true identity yet but for now, I’m you, only in appearance of course.” He spluttered and tried his best to form a sentence of how that can be but I stopped him, standing up and holding my hands out.

“Oncie, Oncie, Oncie, stop the overthinking and listen. I’m here for a reason and I will tell you, just not yet. Now, I suggest you get some sleep and we can talk in the morning, yes?” He slowly nodded, still confused. “But-“ I shook my finger at him. “Ah, ah. No buts. Now come on, sleep.” It didn’t take much convincing as he was clearly shattered and needed nothing more than to sleep as he collapsed into the bed and got all curled up in the bedsheets.

It was adorable, his peaceful sleeping face and his hair all tousled about. I turned the light off for him and removed my gloves, hat and jacket hanging them up on the door and removing and placing my shoes by the door before sliding into the bed and falling asleep too.

Being a guardian angel this good is exhausting.
