Chapter Text

The laughter was contagious as glasses clicked with cheers. Three wine bottles and a bottle or two of champagne between the girls on the table. As well as various candy wrappers and plates of sweets or pasta cluttered the space.

“I just don't understand why they're like this?!” Vectress snorted with laughter as Apogee finished her story.

“Exactly!! Men are just so stupid!” She cheered in laughter as she nursed her glass.

Apogee or Mary was the social butterfly out of all the social butterflies. She was retelling the story of one of her latest nights out on the town outta costume. Since her powers limit her time on the clock she's used to being able to call it a day and have a bit of fun. Of course she understands she's on call 24/7 but when everyone knows you can't operate at night with no sunlight the chances of being called are very very slim. So while yes she's careful she has plenty of fun during the night.

Just the night before their big girls night only Mary had a rather unpleasant but amusing encounter. A man who had the confidence of someone twice the size of her coworkers. But was as broken, ugly, and frankly reminded her of a rusted penny you'd find on the sidewalk.

And just like discarded pennies there's always a bunch of them finding you when you're out and about. It's always the men who have nothing to offer to ask for numbers.

Psychwave or Veronica looked over at their friend Helen lounging in an arm chair. She was laughing as she sipped her wine comfortably melted into the chair almost. Helen in all honesty had anything to say about it and was arguably one of if not the hottest heroines here. She and Blazestone both had a history of being in the middle of endless and countless pursuits.

Since they were on the topic of men she smiled as she asked a question she's had on her mind.

“Why choose Mr Incredible out of everyone? What's so special about Bob?” She asked with a curious smug smile.

Stormicide or Bethany was quick to interject. Always a stickler for doing good and was surprised she'd ask such a question. It's very clear Bob and Helen were either dancing around getting together or actually together. Dancing for it's never been outright but the signs were there. Especially as Helen hadn't broke Bob's heart just yet with her escape.

Helen was always one to put her freedom and career first. To see her actually maybe consider his advances had all their interests.

Beth looked at Helen who seemed to not really register the question. She seemed to have taken too much and was drifting to sleep. She had her own idea of what was going on.

“May I remind you what Bob's powers are..?” She said softly yet not exactly whispering.

It's not really a secret how much restraint Bob must show in his day to day life. Anything, to everything that wasn't reinforced or designed specifically for him would break with a twitch. They've all seen him have moments of misjudged intervals of strength. With how precarious possible accidents were with just regular everyday items imagine putting a partner in the mix. Imagine putting a child in the situation on top of that. Bob’s dating pool was very very slim due to the possibility of harm being so high. So upon turning 18 while they couldn't legally force him to not breed or not date it was heavily frowned and discouraged. However half of the NSA and a small isolated group are interested in the idea of perhaps future mini versions of their golden boy. Especially with a super who had powers that could combine and compliment his strength incredibly well.

Beth was worried this was a matter of outside mixed pressure. Mixed pressure, desperation on Bob's end, or general differences. Helen didn't wanna settle down after all. Neither are getting any younger.

Blazestone or Kelly swirled her glass as thought raced through her head. However Plasmabolt or Cadence cleared her throat. She took up for him simply by reminding them of one thing.

Bob was a gentle giant of a man. He's yet to harm any of them and that shows incredible skill in the cusp and excitement of battle. He had made his stance and feelings known clearly and consistently. He has a good moral compass and heart.

Kelly threw in he's not a bad catch on the eyes either. She laughed as she was promptly buried under various throw pillows. Stratogal or Stacy was eating cake allowed to come with her mother's permission as long as she wasn't given a drink herself. She was quite unsure if she should even speak up. She thought it was unfair hearing through drunken worlds how the government felt against Bob having kids. She's seen him with that fan boy Buddy and his incredible patience and care. How he smiled seeing kids playing or when Thunderhead brought his youngest baby to the NSA Daycare.

He even showed how much he cared for her one night. They were walking in civilian clothes when suddenly Bob moved her in front and close to him. Pulling her to the side protectively till someone behind them suddenly crossed the street seeing he caught their attention. She didn't understand it at the time but Bob noticed the man following them but when he followed for three blocks the alarm bells rang in his ears. However that familiar sharp warning shot through his spine when his sense of danger warned him of the man reaching for something in his pocket.
He warned her about it when he made sure she got home safe after the patrol…

“It's because he's saving for college.” Helen said softly surprising them all.

She was smiling at her glass watching the wine swirl. She smiled this small pained and yet so sweet smile. She softly began to explain setting down her glass for the night.

Bob was saving for college, not for himself no. He said he's far past going and couldn't see himself as anything or as anyone but Mr Incredible. He was not only saving for his future child or children's college, he was helping Thunderhead plan for his kids too. He was putting away money for children he didn't have just yet in case they chose to be something else than a super. He didn't get that choice but he wanted them too.

When he told her that something in her snapped that little bit of resolve she's been running on. The resolve and vow to not rely on some man for her livelihood. It died the day he said that as she realized Bob was more than a man she could trust with not just her life but children they had together.

She chose him, because she can truly say she loves him.
